Volkswagen Group Environmental Mission Statement

For all our products and mobility solutions we aspire to minimize environmental impacts along the entire lifecycle – from raw material extraction until end-of-life - in order to keep ecosystems intact and to create positive impacts on society.

Compliance with environmental regulations, standards and voluntary commitments is a basic prerequisite of our actions.

Focus on 4 prioritized action areas:

 Climate Change

Resources

Air quality

Environmental compliance

We are committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. We intend to become a carbon neutral company by 2050.

By 2025, we plan to reduce our total life cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of passenger cars and light duty vehicles by 30% compared to 2015. We actively contribute to the transition towards renewable energies along the entire life cycle.

We intend to maximize resource efficiency and promote circular economy approaches in the areas of materials, energy, water and land use.

By 2025, we plan to have reduced the production-related environmental externalities (CO2, energy, water, waste, volatile organic compounds) by 45% per vehicle compared to 2010.

We are driving e-mobility forward to improve the local air quality.

By 2025, the share of battery electric vehicles in our model portfolio will be between 20 and 25%. The share of electric vehicles in the Group fleet is to rise to at least 40% by 2030.

We aim to become a role model for a modern, transparent and successful enterprise in terms of integrity by installing and controlling effective management systems covering the
environmental impacts of our mobility solutions over all life cycle stages.

“At VWGoA, we are committed to fulfilling our relevant responsibilities, tasks, and targets in support of the Volkswagen Group’s aspirational mission to minimize environmental impacts and create positive impacts on society.”

VWGoA Environmental Policy Statement

Volkswagen Group of America supports the Volkswagen Group’s goal in becoming a leading provider of sustainable mobility and a role model in environmental management. We contribute to this shared vision by applying our expertise, innovation, and integrity to meet the compliance expectations of today and solve the sustainability challenges of tomorrow.

Guided by the Volkswagen Group’s “Environmental Mission Statement”, Volkswagen Group of America manages its environmental responsibilities according to the following principles:

Leadership

Our leaders at every level of the organization are aware of the environmental risks of their business activities and demonstrate, in words and in actions, their commitment to compliance and to environmental leadership.

They are responsible for the implementation of this policy in their business units and for ensuring that all employees are aware of, qualified to carry out, and held accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities under this policy. The Volkswagen Group of America Board of Directors considers environmental leadership with equal weight to other business criteria in key company decisions.

Compliance

We comply with legal and regulatory requirements as well as Company standards and targets.

We implement environmental compliance management systems to ensure that environmental compliance obligations are understood and achieved in our business operations. Fraud or misconduct that leads to a violation of environmental laws or regulations will be treated as a severe violation of company policy. Compliance with this Environmental Policy and with Group environmental requirements is annually evaluated and reported to the Volkswagen Group of America Board of Directors.

Environmental Protection

We identify and address environmental risks and opportunities in our areas of responsibility to support the Volkswagen Group’s goal in becoming a world leader in sustainable mobility and a role model in environmental management.

We implement economically viable methods to reduce our environmental impact across our operations.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Working with our Volkswagen Group colleagues, we engage with relevant and interested stakeholders to improve our understanding of environmental requirements and expectations.

Stakeholder input is considered and reflected in our environmental compliance programs and in our operations. We commit to providing transparent and reliable information in our dialogue with and reporting to our stakeholders.

Continual Improvement

As part of our effort to continually improve, we implement internationally-recognized and third-party verified environmental management systems which integrate environmental requirements into our key business processes and decision-making.

Our environmental management systems themselves are subject to a process of continual improvement. We rely on our network of subject matter experts to identify and transfer best practices in environmental technology and management. We stay at the forefront of emerging environmental developments in regulations, science, technology and stakeholder expectations to meet or exceed our commitments.
